This holiday season, a miracle came wrapped in wagging tails and tiny paws. In early December, we received a call about a sweet mama Bernedoodle whose family could no longer care for her. With her due date fast approaching and a planned vacation just two days away, we knew it would be a race against time.
We returned home from Mexico on the 10th, and just four days later, we packed up the car and began our journey south. Wanting to ensure this soon-to-be mama felt as comfortable as possible, we brought along Elsa, one of our experienced and nurturing mamas, to accompany her on the journey.
Five hours later, we met the mama-to-be. Her gentle eyes and sweet demeanor immediately melted our hearts. She received a warm bath, a nourishing meal, and plenty of love before we loaded up the car and headed back home. Little did we know, the adventure was far from over.
Just two hours into the drive, mama began panting—a sure sign that her puppies were on the way. We quickly pulled over on I-75 and transformed the back seat into a makeshift whelping area. Under the glow of passing headlights and guided by her instincts, mama delivered her first two baby girls with strength and grace.
Despite the unusual circumstances, mama handled it all like a true champ. With two tiny miracles safely nestled and nursing in the backseat, we got back on the road, eager to get her home. As the miles passed, we grew a little anxious, wondering how she would handle labor during a three-hour car ride. But she never wavered, her resilience shining through.
When we finally arrived, she saw the cozy whelping box we had prepared and walked straight in, knowing it was her safe haven. There, she delivered three more healthy, beautiful puppies—two girls and one boy—bringing the total to five.
Though the delivery didn’t happen as planned, it turned out to be a true Christmas miracle. Mama and her puppies are thriving, their journey a testament to resilience, love, and the magic of the holiday season.
